4 Reasons Not To Do an Inbound Marketing Assessment Part Two
It?s Not a Big Deal If Competitors Have a Better Google Rank Than You
Every business has competition but no one actually bothers to compete, right? Well, we?ve already discovered that you don?t care about your website performance. SERP rankings shouldn?t be any different.
93% of online experiences begin with a search engine (Search Engine Journal). Of course, you can only dream of having a website in one of those searches leads too! In this four part series, find out why you should avoid an inbound marketing assessment and nurturing your website. (wink, wink)
My Rank Was Fine a Few Years Ago.
What do you get when you cross a panda, a penguin and a hummingbird? It?s not a joke, it?s the Google Zoo. If you care about your website at all, this should sound at least a little familiar to you. This Zoo consists of algorithms that focus on different elements of websites in order to produce the best search results for the end user. You just updated your website a few years ago though, so this handy dandy Zoo won?t slow down your traffic at all!
Truth: If your competition knows about the Zoo and you don?t, chances are they are ranking better than you. Google Panda focuses on the quality of content, Penguin focuses on the quality of links coming to your website, and Hummingbird focuses on finding the best matches for the entire search phrase.
A few years ago, you could pack your content full of totally irrelevant keywords and you?d have a chance of showing up in search. Search engines and internet users are constantly getting pickier though. If you?re even a little out of date on your SERP knowledge, you might want to consider an inbound marketing assessment.
Ranking Is Just a Number.
You don?t show up in search engine results until a few pages in but your competition is the very first result. Believe it or not, that isn?t just luck of the draw and your potential clients aren?t going to consider a hell of a lot after those first few results.
Truth: There is a lot that goes into the formula that search engines use to rank pages based on relevance including how many links there are, how many links lead to that page, and so on.
Wah waaaah waah waaah wah wah?
Who cares, right? Without at least a decent page ranking though, your business doesn?t stand a chance of being found. This limits your opportunity to reach potential customers. With an inbound marketing assessment, you can learn how you rank.
Clients Don?t Even Look At Ranking.
Why would customers care how you rank? As long as you get the job done, it doesn?t make a difference how you compare online.
Truth: Marketing matters, especially digital marketing! You aren?t going to get those customers in the first place unless they can find you online and that won?t happen if your ranking sucks. The first ten results (page one) receive 89.71% of all click-through traffic (Jeff Bullas). Even if you make it at least to the second page, you?ll only receive 4% traffic at most!
Now if it doesn?t bother you that no one will ever find your website, an inbound marketing assessment will be a huge waste of your time. But if you happen to have time give your website some TLC, maybe you should consider it. After all, you probably have some time to spare since no one knows your company exists. Think of it as a trivia game and just fill out an inbound marketing assessment with all the fun facts you know about your company website. Once you?ve done that, you can ride off into the sunset and leave the competition in the dust.
